Merger News
Senator Douglas Davis has introduced two bills to the Mississippi State Senate. Senate Bill 2701 proposes the merger of Mississippi Valley State University with Jackson State University. Senate Bill 2710 proposes the merger of Alcorn State University with Jackson State University. Both bills have an effecitive date of July 1, 2011 and require a majority vote. Now is not the time for us to sit by and watch this happen and complain after the fact. LET’S KEEP JACKSON STATE, JACKSON STATE!!!!
Many Jacksonians are saying “Well they are not trying to change Jackson State, so why should I care?” Please look at this as the beginning and not the end of the mergers. This could just be the set up to make Jackson State the University of Mississippi at Jackson. Now is the time to take action, not later. If you have family that still lives in Mississippi, ask them to please write, call, or email their state representatives expressing their opposition to these bills. If they don’t know what to say, write it for them and send them a addressed stamp envelope. We need to write Gov. Barbour and Senator Davis and express our opposition as graduates of Jackson State University.
